Scotty Nguyen did it, baby! After 13 hours of poker and countless bottles of Michelob, Scotty Nguyen came out on top to be named the best HORSE player on the planet today, capturing another WSOP bracelet and the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy at the 2008 World Series of Poker.
Chip Reese, the winner of the inaugural $50,000 HORSE event, passed away earlier this year. Many poker pros regarded him as one of the best players that ever lived, and it was apt to name the hardest tournament to win in the history of poker in his honor.
The field of 148 was the who’s who of poker. Countless pros were vying for the almost $2,000,000 top prize, and Scotty Nguyen took it down. Erick Lindgren came into the final table with a huge chip lead with Michael DeMichele right behind him. DeMichele played a lot of pots, and managed to parlay his few days of work into a $1.2 million dollar payday, eventually losing to Scotty heads up.
“The $50K H.O.R.S.E. event is the best all around player…#1 in the world. Nobody can walk up to me and say, Scotty, you’re second, baby” said Nguyen in his post-game interview.
When presented the trophy, Nguyen remarked, “This feels so good, baby. This is it!”
Here are the official results.

2 - $1,243,200 - Michael DeMichele
