Venus Williams rallied from dropping 10 of the first 11 points in the match to defeat her younger sister Serena in the Wimbledon finals today.  Despite being down 3-1 in the first set, Venus won in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 Saturday to capture her 5th career Wimbledon crown.  Venus also improved her record in Wimbledon finals to 5-2, although this is the first time she’s beaten Serena in the finals–she had lost 2 times in the final previously to her.

The duo played a high calibur of tennis throughout, but in the end, Venus was too much for her sister.  Venus was graceful in victory as she told the media her number one job was the rold of big sister.  The tandem will also be teaming up later in the doubles final where they will face Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur.  A victory in that match would be an arguably all-time best display of dominance by the sisters.

Despite a lapse in their respective games a few years back, it seems the Williams sisters are refocused and poised to continue their complete and utter dominance of the women’s game that they once enjoyed.  It also doesn’t hurt that the world’s #1 ranked player, Justine Hennine, recently and unexpectedly retired to pursue other endeavors.  In any case, it seems we will all be hearing much more about the sister act in subsequent months.
