I don’t know if anybody has noticed, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell truly seems to run the league more like the father of a dysfunctional family than a traditional commissioner.  Ever since Goodell took over for former Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, the NFL has been a stricter house than Ronald McDonald’s (”You are NOT going out dressed like that.  You’re a McDonald, Not a whore!” –Family guy).  Goodell has cracked down on the off-field issues by issuing a zero tolerance policy and holding each player accountable for his actions off the field.  For this I commend Commissioner Goodell.

Despite his swift action to cut down on the hanky panky going on with NFL players at strip clubs and party boats across these United States, Commissioner Goodell has finally gone too far.  Goodell consistently pokes his head in other teams’ business that truly should not concern him.  The most recent matter, to me, is just ludicrous.  In a statement, Goodell recently said that he wants this Favre situation with the Green Bay Packers resolved before training camp.  He went as far to “insist” that Green Bay make calls to other teams to shop Favre.  I don’t know who is with me on this, but to me, how Green Bay handles their personnel decisions is NOT the concern of the commissioner.

According to reports, Goodell spoke with Green Bay in order to ascertain their stance on the Favre situation.  When the team informed the commissioner that they still intended to move on from Favre and start the Aaron Rodgers era, Goodell swiftly informed them that they must trade Favre.  I know that Favre is one of the greatest players ever, but he’s retired, and this time it was supposed to be for good.  The Packers WILL NOT receive any value for Favre and the suitors are few.  Isn’t it the Packers right to say that it is more in their benefit to deny a potential competitor Favre’s services?

It’s not like the Packers didn’t offer Favre a roster spot. In any other situation, a player would have to be a backup–just as Green Bay offered Favre.  It may not sit right with hardcore Favre fans, but ITS THE TEAM’S DECISION HOW THEY WANT TO DEAL WITH THEIR OWN PERSONNEL! Ugh, it just bothers me.
