Dave Cain Goes For Poker Endurance Record

The date of September 14 will contain Dave Cain’s attempt at entering the poker record books. The not-so-famous player is going to attempt to make a name for himself in the poker world by recording the world record for the longest ever poker session at the Library bar in Lincoln, UK. The current record is 72 hours and 2 minutes (according to the Guinness Book of World Records), held by Larry Olmsted of the United States.
Olmsted posted the record by lasting three full days at a table at Foxwoods. Olmsted’s only respite was taking 15 minute breaks every eight hours to change his clothes and brush his teeth. During his session, Olmsted started with $100 at a low-limit table and finished the session with a stack near $1,000. He was aware of the previous record, and despite barely being able to read his cards, Olmsted pressed on.
Cain plans to not only beat Olmsted’s record, but to smash it, by playing for over 100 hours straight. Perhaps even more impressive is that Cain plans to break the record playing heads-up, deep-stacked poker. For the uninitiated, the heads-up game is the most mentally taxing of all game sizes, and by consistently rotating players to play him, Cain will be up against fresh opponents consistently. This could spell trouble for Cain, who I assume has a rather large bankroll coming into this.
The attempt to play 100 hours straight of heads-up poker will be used as a fundraiser for local charities. While the task seems nearly impossible, at least Cain is attempting to give back to the community. Still, I would be on the lookout for performance enhancing drugs. Does the record count if we catch Cain snorting coke or downing adderal’s? Maybe we can just put an asterisk next to the record…
