Stadium Entertainment is doing something right, and I would like to call some attention to it. The company is aiming to shepherd a new business model that combines music, social consciousness, and philanthropy to capture and engage music consumers. In an industry that is so often criticized for being selfish and corrupt, it is a breath of fresh air to hear about a plan such as this.
The first project under the Stadium banner will be called “True To The Game,” and will be a compilation CD featuring famous artists including Kanye West, T-Pain, and Akon. The CD is set to be released October 21, and will be distributed via Pyramid/Fontana/Universal.
The best part of this story is that a portion of the proceeds from the CD will go to benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. As someone who is inherently interested in the history of professional sports in America, I think this is an immensely important project.
According to Billboard.com, Stadium plans to release two more compilations and a best-of CD in its agreement with the 18-year-old museum. The Kansas City, Mo.-based facility will use the proceeds to help fund a $15 million education and research center to be housed within the historical landmarked building where the Negro Leagues were established in 1920.
