Mohegan Sun Introduces New Poker Room

Well, it’s about time that the Mohegan Sun Resort Casino got on board and added a poker room. As a Connecticut native, and one who lived closer to Mohegan than Foxwoods by about 30 minutes, this is something that I’ve wanted for quite a while. Furthermore, the Foxwoods regulars have been buzzing about it for YEARS. Rumors that Mohegan Sun was going to open a poker room were rampant, yet time passed and no such poker room was created.
As of Friday August 29, poker has been re-introduced to the Mohegan Sun faithful (Mohegan Sun used to have poker, but eliminated the room in 2003, right at the start of the poker boom). Management held the grand opening for a 64,000-square-foot addition to the casino, which will be called Casino of the Wind. The new casino is part of a $925 million expansion to keep pace with the massive Foxwoods Resort Casino, which itself has been expanding with a new $700 million MGM Grand Casino.
The most intriguing part of the new casino for poker players is the brand new poker room. The new room will feature 42 tables with 24 suspended televisions so players can keep track of their various sports teams and other betting endeavors. Although the new poker room is not as large as the one at Foxwoods, the new casino at Mohegan will also offer blackjack, roulette, craps and slot machines
