Despite a fast start out of the gate on day 1, poker superstars Gus Hansen, Scotty Nguyen, Michael Mizrachi and Robert Mizrachi were all eliminated on Day 3 of the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event in Cannes. Hansen’s surprising elimination took place during the wee hours of the morning, right on the bubble of the final 8.
The action on Day 3 began at a rapid pace as players came out firing. Arnaud Corvisier busted on the very first hand finishing in 48th place. Other players followed suit as a rash of early eliminations including Romain Constantini, Stephane Fanego and Scotty Nguyen trimmed the field. Other eliminations included early Day 2 chip leader Patrice Sitbon and up-and-comer Noah Schwartz.
The Mizrachi brothers displayed their sibling resemblence as both players had their big pairs cracked to end their respective hopes at taking down Cannes. The two were eliminated back-to-back, in 14th and 15th place, with Robert being the first to go. The younger Mizrachi went all-in with his pocket aces but was beaten when Gus Hansen called and filled his open-ended straight and flush draw. Elder brother Michael suffered a similar fate as he called with his KK against 7s8s and was rivered by a second pair. No shame in falling to a suck out for “The Grinder.”
The last big name to go was Gus Hansen eliminated in 9th place. The “Great Dane” was crippled when he made a questionable call on an all-in move from the cutoff while holding Ah6h. His opponent, Stephane Bazin, turned over AK, and despite flopping a flush draw, Hansen could not hit his draw and was crippled, while Bazin surged to the head of the pack. Hansen was eliminated on the very next hand as again he was dealt Ah6h and went in with it. This time he ran up against Alan Roy’s AdQd with a very similar result.
The final table looks like this:
Stephane Bazin — 2,387,000
Alan Roy — 2,225,000
Philippe Narboni — 1,456,000
Brice Cournut — 1,102,000
Jean Philippe Rohr — 750,000
Claudio Rinaldi — 749,000
Anthonin Teisseire — 541,000
Michel Abecassis — 375,000
