Previous Legend Of Live award winners include Rolling Stones promoter Michael Cohl (2004), Cellar Door Concerts founder Jack Boyle (2005), Sir Elton John (2006) and pioneering agent Frank Barsalona (2007).  Although I have never seen them live before, first hand accounts from the guitar player of my band (who has seen them three times) are that they are AMAZING, even without legend Dwayne Allman. His replacement in the band, Derek Trucks, is essentially the best slide guitar player on the planet right now, so that is none-too-shabby.

“The Allman Brothers Band has rocked the house for four decades, ‘hittin’ the note’ for veteran fans and converting new generations year after year,” says Ray Waddell, Billboard’s executive director of content and programming, touring and live entertainment. “They’re an American institution and concert icons, and Billboard is thrilled to honor them as this year’s Legend Of Live.”

“I don’t understand how they can come in here, in the playoffs, so unprepared. At home even, its a disgrace!”

A disgrace indeed Morgan, a disgrace Cubs fans are all too familiar with — losing in the playoffs. The Chicago Cubs finished this season with the best record in the National league, yet all of that seems like a distant memory now, as the 0-2 deficit they find themselves in has put them on the brink of elimination. Now they return to L.A. for two more games that they must win just to bring the series back to Chicago for a game five.

Unfortunately for the current Cubbies, the curse and the drought that has existed since 1906, the last time the Cubs won a World Series, can be read on the faces of every fan in the stands. Despite the fact that most of these players haven’t been on this team for more than a few seasons, they too have felt the wrath of the boos chorusing down from the crowd as they channel years of disappointment and failure.

It appeared that the Cubs felt that pressure on Thursday night, committing four errors and getting blown out by the L.A. Dodgers 10-3. It was the usual suspects doing the damage for L.A. as Manny Ramirez hit a home run and Russell Martin knocked in three runs with a double. Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs — three earned — with seven strikeouts.

Being picked by many to win the World Series going into the playoffs, the Cubs now need to try and make history, similar to the Boston Red Sox a few years back, and become the second team in history to come back from 0-2 to win a five game series. The only other team to accomplish this feat were the 2001 New York Yankees, ironically under current Dodgers manager Joe Torre. Good luck Cubbies!

The final-table of this tournament followed a pattern that we have seen as of late — a mix of seasoned pros and unknown up-and-comers battling it out for a place in the poker history books. This table featured household names such as Daniel Negreanu, Scott Fischman, and Juanda, while unknown players Chris Elliott, Toni Hiltunen and Stanislav Alekhin joined them for battle.

The story of the day however was Ivan Demidov, who became the first player ever to make a final-table in the Main Event of both the European and American WSOP. Demidov finished second in chips going into the “November nine” showdown in Las Vegas and his third place finish here solidified him as a force to be reckoned with.

Although Juanda eventually beat him heads-up, Stanislav Alekhin is a name to remember. It took Juanda 242 hands in the final-table to get heads-up with Alekhin, and another 242 hands to dispatch him. Alekhin played well and showed his talent, battling Juanda for more than seven hours, despite beginning heads-up play at a significant chip disadvantage. Hats off to the young gent for his heart and extraordinary poker playing against one of the very best in the world.

In what is ADIL’s first trip to Worcester, Ralph’s Diner (located at 148 Grove Street, Worcester, MA) will be hosting local favorites Devoid, Wreckoning, Superpower, and Boring Kind of Guy. The show starts at 9 p.m. and ADIL will be opening the show, so get there early! Show costs $6.

Tuesday night will once again feature the unique styling of A Dark in the Light, this time in Allston, MA at Harpers Ferry (158 Brighton Ave). This top tier, nationally recognized venue will also be featuring the brutality of Nemecide, Widow Sunday, Summoning Hate, and Guilty as Sin. Doors are at 8 p.m. for this show and ADIL will be performing in the prime slot around 10 p.m. Show costs $7 and I personally guarantee you an excellent time at this kick ass venue.

Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to Mark DeRosa’s second inning home run off of Derek Lowe, the Cubs couldn’t hold it behind Ryan Dempster, who appeared nervous and rattled the entire game. The Cubs brought the best record in the National League into the series vs. Joe Torre and the Dodgers, but still appeared uncomfortable on their home field.

Dempster walked seven batters in five innings of work, including walking the bases loaded in the fifth. Dempster didn’t get away with his wild ways as James Loney blasted a grand slam on a 1-2 pitch, giving the Dodgers a 4-2 lead. L.A. never looked back as they added homers from Manny Ramirez and Russell Martin to take the game 7-2.

Derek Lowe, who has been hot as of late, going 6-1 in his last 10 starts, pitched a gem going six innings and allowing only two runs to earn the victory. Corey Wade, Jonathan Broxton, and Greg Maddux all pitched one inning for the Dodgers allowing no runs to seal the deal for L.A.

In a game that pitted the defending World Series champs against the team with the best regular-season record in baseball this season, the Boston Red Sox defeated the L.A. Angels of Anaheim 4-1. Despite dominating the Red Sox during the regular season, going 8-1 against them and outscoring them 42-17, the Angels just can’t seem to beat the Red Sox in the postseason.

Boston proved that they didn’t miss Manny too  much as Jason Bay, the player they got in return for Manny, blasted a two-run shot in the sixth inning to give the Sox the 2-1 lead. The Red Sox added insurance runs on RBI singles by Jacoby Ellsbury and David Ortiz in the ninth inning, but it was Bay’s shot that really sealed it for Boston.

John Lester pitched a beauty of a game throwing seven innings allowing only one run and striking out seven. Justin Masterson got the job done in the eighth inning and Jonathan Papelbon closed it out for the Sox. Game two will pit Ervin Santana of the Angels against Daisuke Matsuzaka of the Sox.

The EPT is now in its fifth season and its widespread television coverage makes it one of the more high-profile events in poker. Continuing the momentum from the wildly successful WSOPE, this EPT event looks to build on its previous successes and become the top-rated series of all time.

The Main Event has long since sold out the 500 seat maximum, with approximately 130 players winning their way into the event via online satellites.  These satellite winners represent the unknown young guns online, but if its big names you crave, perhaps you’ll tune in to watch pros Daniel Negreanu, Chad Brown, Phil Ivey, Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, or Doyle Brunson, who are going to be in attendance.

Last year it was a relative unknown, Joseph Mouawad of Lebanon , who qualified online and took down the £611,520 first-place prize.  Who will it be this year? Stay tuned to find out!

T officials contacted the photographer to identify the driver who later admitted to having his son and nephew at work with him on Labor Day, T spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.  While this is a sad story for the 45-year-old employee, there was a fatal accident involving a green-line T in May, so any distractions that drivers incur during the job are no laughing matter.
